It's time for another Kaman's art group art show!!
The one last year turned out so well.. We must have another!

Featured Creatures!!!
A 2 dimensional piece piece done by you!!
Theme- Create your very own creature/ creatures
So this means a drawing, painting or any media you wish for the piece..
These creatures can be mystical, magical, cuddly, scary.. It's all up to you!
They could have wings, 3 eyes 10 tails, horns ect. the list goes on..? You decide..
Then place it in it's very own environment!!

There will also be a 3 dimentional aspect to the show
Where you will be given a special black 3d object that you will paint draw add to it whatever you like to give it it's original character.
These will be the 3d creatures!
You will be able to pick the blank object up May 8th the at the office..you the have till the end of the month to finish it!!
The show will take place in the beginning of June!
Pieces due May 28th..
This gives you time to work on your piece..
More details to be announced.

Show will be at Picture This in Long Beach
The entry fee will be $15-this covers the gallery fee, fliers
Entry fee due before May 5th to the office- Athena, Angie, Aly or Liz.
This covers cost for the blank object and food and drinks for the reception.
You keep all $ if your piece sells.. The show will be up for a month.
It would be wonderful if everyone is involved!

Just giving everyone a heads up, we are going to have our Holiday Gallery opening on Dec.10,2009, we are going to be starting it at 8pm. Like the last opening, were going to have a potluck and also we are going to have some live music. So come on out and join the fun!!!

It's Halloween time and as such we are doing a little something to commemorate it! As most of you already know (via Facebook) we are going to be doing a Halloween-Themed Art Gallery at our office. I am here to give you all the nifty tidbits of info that your going to need in order to have your work up!

First off, We are accepting submissions beginning October 1st (Thursday), we will keep accepting art pieces until October 12th (Monday), The gallery itself will open on October 14th (Wednesday).

Rules for submission: Anything Halloween related, and as far as content goes use your best judgment, they will be hung at the office (a place of business) for two and a half weeks maybe longer. So make it anything you want just make sure they aren't too vulgar.

Secondly, all art pieces must be framed and ready to be hung up when you bring it in. You can turn it in to Athena at the office when it is ready.

Thirdly, On the day of the opening we will also have our Halloween Potluck/Party at the office from 8pm to 10pm

Lastly, It's a Halloween Party so of course come in costume!!!

Mouse-Holes deconstruct the BlockHeads

The first game of the So-Cal Kaman's Basketball Tournament was played last night in Carlsbad. The Disney Mouse-Holes took victory over the LegoLand BlockHeads with a final score of 29-23. It was a close game the entire time, with both teams playing very aggressively. Steve Fishwick, our regional manager made an appearance, and a good time was had by all. Our next game will be played next Thursday the 23rd against Knott's here in Anaheim. Please come out and support your team. They are:

Mixed Messages: The Kaman's Group Art Show

Beginning July 18th, a whole slew of our very talented artists will be displayed together at the Picture This Gallery in Long Beach. The show's opening reception will actually be on July 24th, and it should be a great turn-out. Invite your family, neighbors, and that creepy guy who keeps leering at you. Maybe he'll buy a painting!

Make sure to Bring your artwork into the office no later then July 12th!

Mid- August, fellow facepainter Dianne Liska (aka SAS) will be moving away from California to the depths of Nebraska. She will be hosting a big going away party/fundraiser/rockout on July 25th at the Gypsy Lounge in Lake Forest and would love it if you all could make it.

Hello Disney,

If I have not already done this, I'm declaring war on all of you.
Basketball war that is, I just moved into a new apartment and it has a basketball court. So with not wasting anything in these tough economic times, we should play some b-ball.

15 games, 8weeks, and a bracket tournament at the end.

2 games will be played a week, Tuesdays and Thursdays 6pm @ 884 Buttercup Rd. Carlsbad, CA 92011

Games will start the week of July 6th and go through August 24th

The end of season tournament will be 5 games of single elimination bracket to find the winner. (Prize for winning team!)

What I need from you is to find at least 5 players (that makes up a basketball team) and a couple extra people as backups for each of your parks. Also you need to come up with an awesome team name, and if your cool enough t-shirts....or at least a team color!

Also my new place has a heated pool and jacuzzi if you guys want to bring your swim suits along and relax after the games.

Fragile and Familiar is an art show featuring the paintings of Alyssandra Nighswonger and ceramics of Lisa Narinian. The Reception will be Saturday, June 6th from 7-10pm. The show is at Zephyr on 2419 e. colorado blvd in Pasadena. Zephyr is an Armenian vegetarian restaurant/coffeehouse/hookah bar with a neat vibe. It'll be a fun show with performances from Lowly Lisa and the Rollie Pollies and Alyssandra and the Daymakers. Music at 8, Daymakers at 9. Come!

Show up early, and Lisa will introduce you to Mr. Tumnus, Aslan, and other members of her Narinian family from inside the wardrobe.

We know we've got a super talented staff here at Kamans, so this is it! The Kamans Group Art Show! The artwork will be on display at Picture This Gallery in Long Beach from mid July through mid August. Any Genre or Medium! There's going to be a smashing opening reception, and we're renting out the space, so if anything sells, the artist keeps 100%! Woo hoo!

Words and Whimsy--Come support Aly!!

Here's the info: The show is called Words and Whimsy. It's Alyssandra's first solo show, and it's a coming together of her art and poetry (she's kind of a Jane-of-all-trades!). She's going to release a chapbook at the reception. It's going to be a fun night. There will be a dj, a jazz trio, some poets, and her band performing. The reception is on Saturday, April 11th, from 6-10p.m. The show is already up, and will be up until May 3rd, if anybody wants to check it out. It's at the Viento y Agua coffeehouse, 4007 E. 4th st. Kaman's Writer's Group

This Tuesday, February 3rd, the Kaman's Writer's group will be back at it again, consoling one another for not being on Oprah's book of the month club again, mostly due to none of our books being complete.
The group is intended as an open forum for anyone who fiddles around with writing, and to allow for discussion of our current projects and to support one another in keeping at it. If you're working on a short story, poetry, if you write songs, graphic novels, haikus, whatever, you're welcome.
We'll be meeting at the Borders coffee shop at the Block at Orange at 7pm. Bring anything that you'd like t read or have read, or just show up and be supportive.

T-SHIRT DESIGN CONTEST 2008!!

DEADLINE EXTENDED to Jan. 20th, 2009

To celebrate 2008, Kaman’s Disney is asking its talented artists to participate in a t-shirt design contest. The t-shirt may be any color the artist chooses, and may have up to 3 colors printed on it. The theme is the artist’s choice- it does not have to be Disney-oriented. The only other guidelines are keep it tasteful, and be sure to include every operation (don’t forget hair and henna) in one creative way or another. Also, don’t make it about one specific person, as this shirt is to be for EVERYONE. Here are some past samples from other parks:

Art Institute Graduates 2008!!!

On the 17th, some members of our team completed their coursework at AI, and showcased all of their hard, and impressive work. Kalen, Memo, Hayley, and William proudly stood in front of monitors displaying their stuff. Congratulations guys!!!! We got rained out this day, so we Dan, Eder, Randy, Manny, Kara, CeCe, Xavier, and myself checked it out and snapped some shots of the only artists in the room we gave a crap about.

We drew names for stuff with the Kaman's logo on it, notepads, pens, calculators, water bottles, and the coolest one, a messenger bag. Serge anticlimactically won it after I found out the name for the next item had already been called. Dastardly.

So...our holiday party was really nice, and very well attended. It was nice seeing you guys dressed in human clothes, and I'm proud of how the overall event went. Special thanks again to the House of Blues for helping us out-it's amazing how far a contract written in human blood trading your soul will get you. Hope you enjoyed it, since Kimberly, Dan, and I will be spending the rest of eternity with Jake and Elwood in the hot place. Oh, and the Flash on the camera was being lame, so a few pics are pretty dark. Sorry!

DISNEY EMPLOYEE PARTY

So, Apparently once a year, we can get tickets to four hours of a DisneyLand free of the annoying guests, and instead filled with the annoying Disney employees. It IS a lot of fun though. You get a free ornament, are handed candy canes every twelve feet, and whenever it's time to take a group shot in front of the castle at the time Richard said (not the time he said he said) people are going to run a little late. But a lot of people made it...of course there were a few members of management who were too busy to join us (yes Dan, I'm very glad that your custom built lightsaber was 50% off, but c'mon!--oh, it's a green one? I'll let it slide). Anyways, I think most people were surprised by how fun it was to go to our place of work off the clock, and fun was had all around.

For the record, a group of us went to our free photo op at Princess Fantasy Faire just before midnight. And...let's just say that the princesses on duty looked like the late shift. It was JV squad all the way. Later Randy compared them the exotic dancers on duty at 10 am...inappropriate Mr. Miller. But true.

On the way down, Kimberly had me suddenly pull over to see this. It was the first California sunset I had actually watched.

...um...Kaman's Art Shoppes celebrates its shoe diversity, upholding a long tradition of celebrating shoes of all sizes, shapes, and colors.

The Kaman's Elite is an exclusive honor within our company that was designed to celebrate our art machines, those artists who within a single day can do ungodly numbers. Here at Disney, those numbers are $1000 in a single day at portraits, $1200 in a single day at Face Paint, and $1400 in a single day at Letter Brush. This year Kimberly, Dan, Bonnie, Katherine, and Ricardo all pulled ridiculous shifts to attain their standing. The fiscal year just ended, and with that came the celebratory gala event down in San Diego, with the Elite members from the 8 other accounts spread across California. There were about 60 people in attendance, with each manager recognizing their own "elite". Katherine snapped a few shots during the award presentations, so without further ado, here they are above. Welcome to Kamaniac, a portal dedicated to the goings on in the world of the many talented artists working for Kaman's at the DisneyLand Resort here in Anaheim. With how incredibly large our staff is and the incredible number of things that are happening at any moment, it can be difficult to let everybody know what's going on in our little home away from home. Mr. Eder Villagran has done his part and then some at keeping us in the know with Eazy Reading (thank you Eder), and the hope for this portal is to be a companion piece to that. Unlike Eazy Reading, however, employees are not held responsible for knowing the stuff posted on here--this is just an optional little groovy fun place. Help me make this into something we all care about-give me your suggestions, feedback, comments, etc.
